Employee Spotlight: Carmen Morgan

Paralegal, Criminal Defense Team

This month, we're excited to introduce you to Carmen Morgan, a paralegal on our Criminal Defense team who's been with Brennan Lenehan Iacopino & Hickey for two months.

Meet Carmen

As a criminal paralegal, Carmen supports our attorneys across every stage of a criminal defense case. Her work includes communicating with clients, reviewing discovery materials, drafting legal documents, coordinating court dates, obtaining records, and keeping case files organized and trial ready.

What she enjoys most about the work is helping clients through one of the most stressful periods of their lives. She knows criminal cases can shape a person's future, and finding ways to support attorneys in building a strong defense is what makes the job rewarding for her.

One moment she's especially proud of is successfully coordinating a complex case that involved extensive discovery and multiple court appearances. Through careful organization and attention to detail, the team was able to prepare efficiently and secure a positive outcome for the client.

Attention to detail is the skill she credits most for her career so far. "In criminal law, small details can make a significant difference in a case," she says.

Carmen also wants clients to know just how involved paralegals really are. Far from a behind the scenes administrative role, criminal paralegals take part in case preparation, legal research, document drafting, and direct client communication, serving as a critical support to the defense team throughout the legal process.

Her advice for anyone interested in the field is to be ready to learn continuously and build strong organizational skills. Criminal law moves fast, so attention to detail is essential, along with strong communication, adaptability, professionalism, and empathy when working with clients.

Carmen draws inspiration from attorneys and legal professionals committed to protecting rights and ensuring every client receives fair treatment under the law. She's also always looking to grow, staying current on criminal procedure, legal technology, and case management systems as the field continues to evolve.

Beyond the Office

When she's not in the office, Carmen is usually at the gym, her favorite form of stress relief, spending time with her son, creating podcast and social media content, or catching up with close family and friends.

A few fun facts: Carmen once considered becoming a mortician, and if she could instantly master any subject, she'd choose to be a homicide expert. She's also fluent in Spanish, speaking, reading, and writing, which she's happy for clients to know.

Her go to recharge method stays a secret, but she's always up for a paranormal or reality TV binge, and if she could hop on a plane tomorrow, she'd head straight for the Galapagos Islands to see the wildlife.
